Happy Tails from LAHPSTR – Rags to Riches
Meet our Itsy Bitsy Miss Fabulous, Mirra Turner. She is a vivacious and assertive 8 year old liver-colored Shih Tzu who weighs 10 lbs. She is affectionate, plays nicely with other small dogs in her foster home and from time to time, also picks up a toy to play with. Mirra is adventurous and enjoys exploring the yard or walking on a leash in a park or around town. She rides well in a car and looks forward to going bye bye every time her foster Mom picks up the car keys. Mirra is healthy and fully vetted to our white-glove standard - among the highest in the rescue arena - which includes: - spayed - comprehensive bloodwork (complete blood count, chemistry panel, T4) - heartworm test - tick panel - fecal test - up to date on core shots (rabies, DHPP) and bordetella - dental cleaning She is scheduled for cataract surgery next month with a veterinary ophthalmologist. We expect that she will regain full vision after her surgery. The ideal home for Mirra is an active and loving household where she will experience outings, car rides, and exercise outdoors regularly. A yard is preferred. She displays some anxiety and we would like a home where at least one guardian stays at home most of the time (retired, stay at home or work from home) so Mirra does not feel lonely. She can be an only dog or in a home with other small dogs. Families with children who are well-behaved around dogs are welcome to apply. We prefer that applicants live within 100 miles of Fremont, CA. If Mirra is your kind of girl and you would like to have her as your next BFF, please apply at www.lahpstr.com/apply. Her adoption donation is $500. All our dogs are fully vetted (see above). Our adoption policy is at: www.lahpstr.com/adoption-policy. We are looking for the best "mutual fit" home for Mirra. If you have any other questions related to her, please email us from our profile at lahpstr.petfinder.com. View full description »
Logan is a 1.5 neutered year-old Shih Tzu who weighs about 8 lbs. His coloring is best described as liver and white. Our gorgeous boy has green brown eyes and a liver nose. A typical puppy full of energy, he loves to play with toys and other dogs, and has a confident personality. He is people- and dog-friendly. He is affectionate and gives tons of kisses - hence his nickname of "little green-eyed kissing monster'! He is fully vetted and has received the following veterinary care: – Comprehensive blood panel (CBC, chemistry, thyroid) – Fecal test, and deworming – 4Dx which includes heartworm test and tick panels – Core shots (Rabies, DHPP) Logan has a stenotic nare (pinched nostril), which has opened since intake. It is our hope that he will outgrow the condition. However, we will contractually require ongoing monitoring of the nare by a qualified veterinarian. A stenotic nare affects breathing and may cause snoring. He is mostly house-trained and currently on a schedule where he goes outside every two hours. Logan will need to be retrained to the adopter's house schedule. We are looking for a home where Logan will have another young, playful dog for companionship. He has not been tested with cats or children. A fenced yard is preferred. His foster family will perform an initial screen and contact potential adopters with further steps and how to apply. Meet Kiko Edinburg, a 3 yo Japanese Chin originally from the Valley region in Texas. She came into rescue with her brother who has since been adopted. Kiko is a playful and affectionate little girl. She loves to sit on laps and give kisses. She gets along with other dogs, but can also be an only dog as she can entertain herself with toys. While generally mild-tempered, Kiko is not a push-over. Kiko loves food! She is house-trained and as an active young adult, will need regular exercise. Her potential adopter will be expected to take her on daily walks and/or have a fenced yard where Kiko can run and play. Japanese Chins shed and are not suitable for people with allergies. Kiko will need regular brushing and grooming to maintain her coat, especially if her hair is allowed to grow. Kiko is FULLY vetted to the highest standard in the rescue arena. She has received the following: 1. spay 2. rabies and DHPP 3. comprehensive bloodwork (CBC, chemistry and T4) 4. fecal tests and deworming 5. 4Dx test for heartworm and tick-borne disease Kiko has also received extra veterinary care to address all her known medical needs. She has been treated for ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease and retested. A specialist performed a modified spay on Kiko since she has abdominal adhesions from unknown origin. Kiko has not been tested with children or cats. If you are interested to adopt or have any questions, please contact us. Her foster will get in touch with you. Please allow a few days for a response. 1. About Ronan - Applicants must apply at https://www.lahpstr.com to be approved and considered. Ronan is estimated to be 3-5 years and weighs 11 lbs. Our best guess is that he is a Shih Tzu - Dandie Dinmont Terrier mix. He is a "low-rider" with short legs and Terrier-like hair. Ronan navigates exceptionally well despite being blind. His medium-grade heart murmur does not require treatment. Ronan is a feisty little fellow who loves his food and treats, and will come to the kitchen to protest if one is ever late with his meals! 2. Ronan's temperament and energy level - Loving but likes his space. Becomes a snuggle bug at night, wanting to share a pillow and sleeping close to his human; - Good with other dogs; - Low energy. Loves to hang out on his bed with his favorite toys that include soft pumpkins; - Housetrained but may mark around other males; - Loves car rides and exploring the yard. 3. Vetting Fully vetted - neutered; UTD on core shots and bordetella; comprehensive bloodwork; urinalysis; fecal test; 4Dx test; dental; and microchipped. 4. Health Challenges Ronan is blind and has a medium-grade heart murmur. He has seen a veterinary ophthalmologist and cardiologist. Ronan takes prescription eye medication twice a day and eye lubricant at least 3-4 times daily. He does not need any medication for his heart. Going forward, Ronan will need annual monitoring with eye and heart specialists to keep him in the best health. 5. Adoption Donation $300 6. Ronan's ideal home Ronan's perfect family will have lots of love, understanding and patience to care for a dog with his special needs. We prefer a family with at least one stay-at-home or retired adult, or one adult who works from home to keep up with Ronan's eye medication regimen during the day. A fenced yard is preferred since Ronan loves to explore outdoors and for his safety, will need to be supervised in a secure area. We will require the family to contractually commit to his veterinary care going forward. Ronan comes from a harsh, neglectful background and we want him to be assured of his best life now. Ronan will make a wonderful little companion! Are you ready to open your heart and home, and commit to this gorgeous baby boy? I was rescued in Texas where I was left tied outside all the time in the heat. No one cared for me and I was emaciated, matted and flea-ridden, with long nails and painful sticky burrs next to my skin. My foster Mom took me to the vet immediately, who said that I also had a prior (minor) leg fracture that had not been treated. Temperament: friendly with small and larger dogs, and people. Child-friendly. I enjoy car rides, supervised outside yard time and toys. I am a cuddler who likes to sleep next to my person(s). Energy level: medium. Playful but I also like to relax in between. Vetting: Fully vetted - neutered, UTD on core shots and bordetella, comprehensive bloodwork, fecal test, 4Dx test, microchipped. Health challenges: Relatively unaffected by prior minor leg fracture. Will occasionally lift my leg if tired. Adoption Donation: $350 I am looking for a quiet home with or without kids and other dogs. A fenced yard would be great. Are you looking for a warm, squishy cuddler? I just might be the one you are looking for. Please apply at www.lahpstr.com. View full description »
